Alice was a childhood friend of Rudolph van Strauss Arclaim and Judom Lankars. They grew up together and she became powerful.. As Rudolph became king, she became the commander of the army. Totally based on her own abilities, not due to any personal favors.
Rudolph was in love with her but could not act on it as his obligations as a king prevented it. Since she was happy in her life, he never chose to pursue those feelings.
During the war she risked her life alone to save a young child who had been taken prisoner. She succeeded but was taken prisoner instead. Rudolph could only watch as the was slowly tortured to death.
Looking back, Judom believes this was point where Rudolph lost his sanity and was the seed of his blind hatred for the Evila. But Judom didn't recognize the warning signs until it was too late.
